Our Houses provide free, comfortable accommodation for families with children in hospital.
Each House is located as close as possible to a specialist children’s hospital, so families can stay near their child throughout treatment. This means you can be by your child’s bedside in a matter of moments, while still having somewhere to rest and take care of yourself.
When a child is admitted to hospital, families often find themselves far from home.
Suddenly, life may be a juggle of long journeys, unexpected costs, time away from work, and the challenge of being separated from other family members.
Our Houses help ease that pressure by providing a free place to stay, close to the hospital. This allows families to focus on what matters most during a challenging time.
Since opening our first House in 1989, more than 95,000 families have stayed with us across the UK.
We have 14 houses across the UK.
Every House is designed to feel like a home away from home.
While each House is slightly different, most offer:
These spaces are there to help families maintain some normality during a difficult time.
Each House is run by a dedicated team who are there to welcome and support families during their stay.
They help create a safe, respectful and compassionate environment, and are available if families need practical support or guidance.
Families can usually stay for as long as their child is receiving treatment, depending on need and availability. Stays may be reviewed during longer periods to ensure that support is provided where it is most needed.
Living in a shared space
Our Houses are shared environments, with families staying at the same time.
We aim to create a respectful and supportive atmosphere for everyone.
House teams help ensure that shared spaces are welcoming, safe and suitable for all families.
Families are referred to the House closest to the hospital where their child is being treated.
Hospital teams will guide families through this process and help arrange a stay where possible.
If you do not need to stay overnight
If a family does not need to stay overnight, or if a room is not available, they may still be able to use the House during the day.
This can provide space to rest, eat and take a break from the ward.
