At Ronald McDonald House UK, we help families with children in hospital cope with the practical and emotional challenges they face.
When a child is in hospital, being together matters. Treatment is often far from home, meaning parents, carers and siblings may need to leave behind their usual routines, support networks and sense of normality.
What starts as an emergency trip can turn into weeks or even months away from home, with no clear idea of what lies ahead.
At the moment families need stability most, home can feel suddenly out of reach. That is where we step in.
Without our Houses, families are forced into lengthy commutes to and from hospital, or to sleep on hospital chairs, even in their cars. Some wards have pull-down beds, but even with these, families are separated and there is nowhere to get a proper night’s sleep.
By removing practical and financial barriers to staying near hospital, we enable families to be present, informed and involved in their child’s care. Our Houses provide more than accommodation. They offer rest, stability and emotional support that allow parents and carers to engage fully with clinical teams and be active partners in care.
We are an independent charity and rely on the support of donors, fundraisers, volunteers and partners.
Their generosity helps us continue to provide free accommodation and support for families when they need it most.
We work closely with NHS hospital teams, partners and supporters to support families during their child’s treatment.
Together, we help families stay close, supported and connected during some of the most challenging times in their lives.
